Finland in Israel

The Finnish community

The Finnish community in Israel numbers over 700, the majority of whom are women. There are over 100 Israeli-Finnish children and naturally many of the Finns who are temporarily staying in Israel also have children.

The community is composed of different groups, among them the Finnish-Jewish immigrants (around 160 persons). In addition there are exchange students, Finns working in various international organizations, the personnel of the Finnish Evangelical Lutheran Mission and the staff of the Finnish Embassy in Tel Aviv and the representation office in Ramallah. Many Finns working in Israel have brought their family members with them. In addition, there are Finns residing permanently in Israel as a result of marriage or due to different work tasks.

Finns to be found around the country

Geographically speaking, the majority of Finns living in Israel reside in Jerusalem and its environs. Additionally, Finns live in Tel Aviv and central Israel, in Tiberias, in northern Israel, in Haifa on the coast and also the southern town of Eilat.

The Finns in Israel have a reasonable amount of communal activity. There is also a Finnish travel agency called Toiviomatkat that operates in Jerusalem.
